Initially developed as a deluxe, two-pickup upgrade to Rickenbacker’s 4000 bass, the Rickenbacker 4001 bass guitar has become a notable model for its long list of famous players. First released in 1961 with production lasting through the very early ‘80s, the 4001 has earned fans in bass players like Lemmy Kilmister, Kim Gordon, Rick James, Geddy Lee, and many, many more. The extra pickup with individual volume and tone controls was added to the 4001 to widen tonal possibilities and up the bass frequency response. Using the "Rick-O-Sound" output users can route each pickup to separate amplifiers/effects simultaneously. 3 piece Maple/Walnut/Maple neck-through construction provides effortless upper register access and superb sustain. The bound Rosewood fingerboard sports pearloid inlays and 33.25" scale. The Maple body's walnut finish sports all the beautiful play wear of a true vintage instrument; nothing contrived here! Previous electronics modifications were uninstalled when we received this bass, but the body cavity bears proof of their existence. Contemporary hardshell case included.
