The Stewart Audio ADB1 is an active direct box, which is what the name stands for, suitable for use both on the stage and in the studio. Since I don't do live sound and I'm really a studio rat, I've only got experience using the ADB1 inside a recording studio setting. Most direct boxes are passive, so it is nice to find an active box that sounds this good. Being that it is an active box, it does require either power from a battery or phantom power. The ADB1 is made up of analog parts with unbalanced 1/4" connections for input and output and a balanced XLR output as well. The box also has switches for on/off, ground lift, and for choosing between either speaker or instrument. It isn't rackable - it is in a box form.

The legendary EHX Bad Stone Phase Shifter resurrected! With prices of 1970’s vintage Bad Stones soaring, now is your chance to get a reissue that is faithful to the original circuit design and three-knob control layout, but features up-to-date enhancements for the modern player. The Bad Stone delivers an incredible six stages of phase shifting plus a manual mode that lets the player freeze the phase. Its Rate knob controls the phase shifting speed which goes from a very slow swoosh to a rapid, oscillating warble. The EHX Bass Big Muff lets you rip and rumble with a full fuzz tone and no low-end loss. Inspired by the mythical bass response of the Black Russian Big Muffs of the 90’s, the distortion of the Bass Big Muff hits like a ton of bricks, sludgy morter and all. The classic three-knob design of Volume, Tone, and Sustain make for familiar control over the fuzz circuit. A Dry/Bass Boost switch either mixes you dry signal with the fuzz tone or reintroduces more low frequencies into the fuzz circuit, which is useful when the Tone knob is set high. A separate Dry output allows for two amps sets for increased setup versatility.

DOD's FX25 Envelope Filter was derived from DOD's well-received 440 Envelope Filter. Like the 440, the FX25 uses a bandpass filter circuit where the peak frequency is determined by the input signal level, for a touch-controlled wah or auto-wah effect. The FX25 was one of the original ten DOD FX-series pedals that debuted in 1982, and remained in production until it was replaced by the FX25B in 1998.

The EHX Neo Holy Grail is an update to our wildly popular compact digital reverb, the Holy Grail. It contains three reverb algorithms: SPRING, HALL, and PLATE. All three algorithms were designed and tailored for the electric guitar, but they work equally well on most instruments and voices.

The SPRING algorithm is a re-creation of the classic spring reverbs that are found in many guitar amplifiers. The HALL algorithm simulates the reverberations heard in large spaces such as a concert hall or cathedral. The PLATE algorithm is an emulation of a metal plate reverb commonly found in high end recording studios during the 1960s and ‘70s. The PLATE reverb is a very smooth, tonally balanced sounding reverb that sounds great on many different instruments, especially vocals. Billed as paying tribute to days gone by while still looking to the future, it is no doubt the coolest-looking pedal we’ve seen in a long time. Featuring four knobs and a three-way toggle switch, the Calavera phaser from Alexander Pedals is both user-friendly and very versatile. The knobs control Rate, Intensity, Mix, and Tweak. The Tweak knob has different functions depending on which mode the pedal is in. The three modes are: Suave, Dynamica, and Loco. Suave mode is rich, wet, and full. If you’re looking for some classic phase tones, this is a good place to start, but there is a lot more going on here than a Phase 90 or Small Stone. In this mode, the Tweak knob determines the amount of regeneration in the phase signal. Dynamica, as the name implies, is a touch sensitive mode. The Tweak and Rate knobs are interactive with one another, and the phaser responds to the overall volume of your guitar signal. Set the Rate knob high and your guitar volume high, and listen as the speed decreases. Turn the Rate knob to a lower setting, and the speed increases when you increase your guitar volume. This mode takes some getting used to, but it is pretty rad, and could be the missing link in a transition passage of a song. Loco mode is just plain crazy. The Tweak knob controls feedback in the phaser and this mode is linked to a ring modulator for wacky and over-the-top sounds. If you want a phaser that stays in one place and never moves, this probably isn’t the one. But, if you have a sense of adventure, and want to discover new tonal textures and landscapes, this is right up your alley.

The EHX Micro Q-Tron is a smooth envelope filter with a funky wah-wah tone. The filter is controlled by its internal envelope follower, analyzing the volume of your notes and the dynamics of your playing to directly sweep the filter’s center or cutoff frequency. A stronger attack or louder note will produce a wider frequency sweep while softer playing produces more subtle effects. Use the Q control to make the effect more dramatic. Create a pedal that sounds like an amp, with a very open character and little compression allowing even the most subtle of your playing to shine through. One of the reasons they’ve achieved such a dynamic pedal is the fact that TC Electronic uses a special circuit that ramps up the voltage to more than 3 - 4 times the amount of your typical drive pedals. The Pentatone Gate is a standalone version of the GATE section in the Ibanez Pentatone Preamp. This gate achieves a quick response and natural sustain and has an added threshold mode switch which allows you to adjust the threshold in the appropriate range.
