Our 1935 Maybell resonator emits mojo one can only obtain from nearly 90 years of well-loved playing. It was made by Regal in Chicago for the Slingerland brand and these were often sold as "Cathedranolas," though the actual Cathedranola models were a slightly-earlier version using a balsa-wood disc "resonator" instead. In the case of this instrument, the body is made like a normal resonator guitar with a thicker ply-birch body and a hole cut-out under the coverplate. Into this hole (and recessed under it) is a solid Spruce disc of soundboard material with ladder bracing. This sound became synonymous with music from the 20s and 30s with players like Bo Turner, Tampa Red, and Reverend Gary Davis all turning to their resonators to create a new movement in blues. The Mahogany neck and Rosewood fingerboard have been worn to perfection and design elements like a 12th fret neck joint, 24" scale, and 1 3/4" nut width will leave you unable to put this guitar down.
